Our Mission & Values

STATEMENT OF POSITION

The Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation is a legally registered charitable trust, established to realise the vision of Dame Kiri Te Kanawa to provide financial support, career assistance and guidance to young New Zealand singers and musicians with exceptional potential to support their aspirations to develop international careers at the highest level.

OUR MISSION

Realise the vision of Dame Kiri Te Kanawa to identify and support young New Zealand singers and musicians with exceptional potential.

The whole thrust of the Foundation’s work is recognising and supporting young people who have what it takes to achieve world-class status in an extremely competitive arena of endeavour.

COLLABORATION

The Foundation looks towards sustainability and seeks to add new value, not to duplicate or replace the existing excellent work that is being done in this area by a range of individuals and institutions. We work hard to understand the existing environment and to collaborate with existing key audiences including young singers and teachers, potential donors, Government and key agencies and the wider ‘engaged’ public.

OUR VALUES

We are empathetic and take a holistic approach to all singers and musicians that we support.
We are committed to excellence and are professional at all times.
We act with transparency, integrity and credibility

HOW WE SUPPORT

The Foundation is flexible in the range of support provided which includes but is not restricted to:

  • Mentoring, professional advice and master classes – two examples being Dame Kiri’s mentoring programme and individual needs based tuition modules.
  • Funding for specific and agreed use, as discussed and negotiated with individual recipients. To date the Foundation has approved $1.7M in grants to young singers and support for educational programmes and competitions like the Lexus Song Quest.
