Robert Wiremu
Robert Wiremu (Kahungunu and Tūwharetoa) is a musician with a wide range of interests and experience. He studied western classical music at Victoria University of Wellington, the University of Auckland, and The Queensland Conservatorium of Music, and later taught music literacy, choral and solo singing at the University of Auckland.
As an experienced baritone chorister, soloist and recording artist Robert is in demand as a teacher, repertoire coach, vocal consultant, adjudicator and artistic advisor. He has collaborated with many of New Zealand’s most distinguished artists and has worked with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, and the New Zealand String Quartet. He was the director of Opera in the Pā; a former director of the New Zealand Secondary Students’ Choir; deputy director of the New Zealand National Singing School; the artistic advisor for Choirs Aotearoa NZ and currently sits on the governance board of the New Zealand Choral Federation.
His association with Dame Kiri spans more than 20 years.
Robert has a particular interest in bringing Māori and other New Zealand stories to the classical stage.
