Joanna Foote
Soprano
In 2010 New Zealand soprano Joanna Foote received a Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation grant to attend the Solti Te Kanawa Accademia di bel canto summer school in Tuscany. She subsequently secured a further grant for coaching lessons and expenses.
Previous to that Joanna had sung numerous operatic roles including Susanna in Mozart’s ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’, Nanetta in Verdi’s ‘Falstaff’ and Polly in Weill’s ‘Threepenny Opera’. A graduate of UCLA in the USA and the University of Auckland, Joanna was a finalist in the 2009 McDonald’s Aria Competition at the Sydney Opera House and in the same year won The Otago Daily Times Aria Competition in New Zealand.
Recent highlights have been touring Europe with Diva Opera performing Marie in La fille du Regiment, Adina in L’elisir d’amore for Haddo House Operatic Society in Scotland, and reaching the finals for the 2012 Kathleen Ferrier Competition.
In 2013 she sang with The Opera Group, performing at the Paris Châtelet and Barcelona Liçeu, in a revival of the award-winning production of Kurt Weill’s Street Scene which appeared at the Young Vic with the BBC Concert Orchestra in 2011, and sang Valencienne in The Merry Widow with Opera Danube/St John's Smith Square.
Joanna received a further grant to support her attendance at the 2013 Academy of French Song and Opera in Toulouse and is a Samling Scholar.
