Anthony Schneider
Bass (New Zealand)
New Zealand Bass Anthony Schneider holds a Bachelor of Music with Honours (Voice Performance) from the University of Auckland. He was a member of the New Zealand Opera Chorus for several years, and sang small roles and covers during his time there, as well as principal roles with Opera Factory in Newmarket. Notable competition wins include the Becroft Aria and Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Awards, as well as reaching the NZ Aria final and being nominated for a NAPTA prize for best lead role in a play. Since arriving at the Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) in Philadelphia in 2013, Anthony has performed many roles including the Count des Grieux in Manon, Colline in La Bohème, and Méphistophélès in Faust. He was a winner at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Philadelphia District round, and won the highest Encouragement Award at the Regional round. He sang the bass solos of Handel's Messiah with the Philadelphia Orchestra in 2014.
In 2015 Anthony was awarded several grants from the Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation to support his audition & competition programmes.
Anthony completed is studies at AVA in 2017 and moved to Houston to take up an invitation to join the Young Artist Program at Houston Grand Opera.
